  • Child of King

Tamil inscriptions define the direct meaning of Pillay as "Child of King" (prince/princess.) According to epigraphic records, Pillay is an ancient title that goes back to the Tamil Sangam Era (3rd century AD) and was given to junior members of the royal family.

In Kerala, Pillay is a title of nobility which can either refer to a ruling chief, members of the nobility or junior princes ranked immediately below the king.
